Coming Home Exhibition – new original paintings
Malcolm draws his inspiration from the North East due to its unmistakeable character and its features that have been defined and formed by its industrial roots. It was this industrial nature that fascinated him as his forefathers and following generations were in the lead and coal mining industry on the Aston Moor and Tynedale. He was born in 1944 in Elswick, where he then continued to live and work around Newcastle City, and eventually settled 20 years ago in the market town Northumberland.
The local area’s industrial history has been one of the main driving forces behind his work. His passion and sincere love for the location and is quirks is represented strongly in his work and a sense of community and togetherness is evident within each piece. It is this genuine approach to art that sets Malcolm out from his peers, as he captures the reality of everyday life so authentically by painting what the observer doesn’t just literally observe.
