I was commissioned to paint Gateshead Town Hall and every time I crossed the Tyne Bridge I kept getting great views of the ‘Get Carter’ car park and the old Gateshead library, so I thought it would make an interesting painting.

The car park was demolished in 2010 and in many respects this painting is a true record of how it was until 2010.
